Since the beginning, poker has created a lot of its variants. With time, all the variants of poker have a different set of rules and are different from each other.

There are more than 2.5 million different types of five-card hands, but there are only nine categories of different hand types. These are called hand ranks, as they can be ranked hierarchically in most poker variants.

This is a game of pure chance, but it is helpful to know the concept of betting, hence, poker as a game gains skill and an understanding of psychology.

1.    Royal Flush

The royal flush is the legendary poker hand ranking, it is considered the best poker hand possible. This is a very difficult hand to play, where only a few people can win. It actually features only five consecutive cards which are of the same order of value from 10 to ace.

2.    Straight Flush

This hand is normally seen in movies and in popular culture as such than it is done in real life. This is a very self-explanatory hand that can be qualified as a straight flush.

Right at top of every, poker hand, a royal flush is at the top of the chain. But if you are holding a royal flush, then it is for sure no one can beat you.

3.    Full House

It is also known as full boat, this comprises a pair and three of the same kind. The common way of describing it is by saying “Full houses, Kings full of 9s”

Like the ranking rubric, the full house along with a higher-ranking three of its kind always beat a lower-ranking three of its kind.

4.    Straight

This is the first poker hand that requires the usage of all the five cards. If your hand makes a straight when all of the five cards are different and are in consecutive rank. It is important that all the five hands are different and consecutive to each other.

The worst hand of straight is called “the wheel” like A, 2, 3, 4, 5, meanwhile, the best hand of straight is called “Broadway” like T, J, Q, K, A.

It is important to keep in mind that, the Ace should be at the bookends of the hand that is being played. If the Ace is in the middle of the hand, then that hand will be invalid.

5.    Three of a Kind

This is one of the uncommon hands in poker. Three of a kind is a type of hand that is being drawn from a normal deck of poker. This only occurs about 47 times of the time.

This hand comprises of drawing three cards of the same kind and a pair of uncommon cards. This kind of hand is commonly called “trip Aces”, “a set of Aces”.

If you pick three similar cards and two unpaired cards then it is three of a kind.

But if you pick two paired cards then the handset would be called “a full house”.

Poker is truly a very popular game which requires a lot of skills and knowledge of psychology and a bit of luck of course. But it is important to know that though poker needs a lot of self control and focus, it is highly common to lose control of your senses as well, it can be highly addictive.
